Gresham counted 114,247 residents in the 2020 census, behind Portland, Salem, and Eugene. It had 90,205 in 2000 and 33,005 in 1980. Brothers Jackson and James Powell settled the area in 1851 and called it Powell's Valley, and berries, grapes, and vegetables drove its economy from the 1910s into the 1960s.
